Mentoring and the Analogy of Training a Pilot



  • Be a mentor
  • Make people development your top priority
  • Limit who you take along
  • Develop relationships before starting out
  • Give help unconditionally - make them fly
  • Let them fly with you for a while - a pilot never works alone (On the Job Training)
  • Put fuel in their tank - resourcing
  • Stay with them until they can solo successfully 
  • Clear the flight path
  • Help them repeat the process - no success without a successor. There's no generation if there are no generators
  • Lift others higher
